and so it begins

The ski season is upon us. Time to dig out last years winter gear and dust off the old board. The season has officially begun. I can't say it comes with much enthusiasm because only one resort in Colorado is open for business and they have about 3 runs open in total. So although the quality is lacking as well as the quantity...the weekend still proved to be a great time. Saturday morning rolled around and it was a slow start to say the least. By the time we packed the car, ordered our bagel sandwich's and drank our latte's, Noon was well upon us. So with full bellies and a strong espresso buzz, we set the compass West and headed towards the mountains. By the time we rolled into the A-Basin parking lot, every puberty bound teenager and trendy college student had planted their asses ahead of us in the lift line making our wait time about 20 minutes. Luckily I had NOTHING else to do this fine Saturday afternoon, otherwise I may have taken issue with the fact that I was waiting at least 20 minutes to hop on a ski lift that would take me to the top of the mountain where I would ride my way down to the bottom in approximately 3 minutes. Doesn't make much sense I know but the view is amazing and the ride on the way down is even better. Except for that part where you get lazy, forget to turn your board, and fall face first in the snow with a mouth full of snow and embarrassment. Only happened to me once on Saturday so I'll consider the day a success.

Once we spent a few hours on the mountain, we decided to call it and move our party to the parking lot. We had a grill in the car, beer in the trunk, and burgers in the cooler. Not much else you could ask for. Delicious.

By the time we packed ourselves back in the car and headed home to Boulder, it was near impossible to keep my eyes open. We were exhausted to say the least. Once we arrived at the apartment (close to 6PM), it took me about 5 minutes to unload my gear, change into my pajamas, and face plant myself into a pillow. My intentions were innocent of course and I promised myself "just a quick nap", but sure enough I didn't open my eyes again until about 1AM. At that point what else can you do other than call it a night and commit to another 6 hours of sleep? Which I did.

Cheers to a great first day in the snow. Looking forward to PLENTY more to come!
