Despite what Sara and Laura might say...this weekend managed to fly by. They arrived at the airport Thursday night (with 60 pound suitcases in hand) and we piled ourselves into my car and headed back to Boulder. We laid low Thursday night and caught up on all the nonsense in each other's lives that we've missed out on. As expected, not much has changed. Both of the girls are still kicking ass at life and taking numbers. Unfortunately I had to work on Friday so I didn't get to hang with them until the evening rolled around. They managed to stay busy with shopping, eating, and a scenic drive up to Nederland, CO. Once I left the office, we headed back to my apartment and relaxed with a bottle of wine and some cheese and crackers. By far the best combination ever. When we decided that cheese and crackers wasn't going to hold our appetites for the evening, we headed downtown to one of Boulder finest eating establishments, The Kitchen Upstairs. Sara put her knowledge of wine to work and ordered us a bottle of red. I on the other hand took charge of the food menu and in no time we were munching away on flat bread and garlic fries. I'm drooling just thinking back on it.
We had a slow start Saturday morning but by the time we finally pulled ourselves together and decided on a breakfast venue, the sun was shining and the temperature had warmed to about 75 degrees. We took advantage of the day and sat outside at a local French bistro called the Brasserie Ten Ten. Another amazing meal to add to the weekend. Afterwards we headed back to my apartment and relaxed while we debated our plans for the rest of the day. Denver seemed like the best option so after a few hours of lounging, we headed south towards the Mile High city. Timing wasn't in our favor because right as we pulled onto the highway, we hit a wall of CU Football traffic so for the next 2 hours we inched our way towards Denver with full bladders and hungry stomachs. Not an ideal situation.
We met up with a few folks at the Falling Rock brewery and drank our way through their endless menu of beer. A+ on the brew selection, D+ on the service. Next stop was local hipster bar called Sputnicks. A trendy mix between a soda pop shop, a dive bar, and an art gallery. While we were there, Laura managed to loose an earring, gain a food menu, and debate bitch slapping the girl who stole who bar stool. She kept the evening interesting to say the least.
Our last stop of the evening was one of my favorite venue's, this dive bar called Herb's which has cheap drinks and awesome live music. By this point we were all exhausted and dreaming of our pillows so after a little while at Herb's, we hailed a cab and headed home.
We woke up the next morning and indulged ourselves with Starbucks and bagel sandwiches. The best hangover cure to date. Then it was off to the airport to drop the girls off and say our goodbye's. It's always so awesome having friends out to visit but I hate seeing them leave. One of these days I'll need to convince someone to move out here and keep me company :)
