new addition

Setting aside all the weekends I've had with out of town visitors....this past weekend was by far one of my favorites in Colorado. A large factor being the purchase of my brand new bike. I got lucky when the universe set me up with the best parents in the world and this year they were beyond generous and let me pick out a bike for my birthday. Sad to admit that I now have to retire the infamous purple "Iron Horse" that's served me well for the last 10 years but it's been a long time coming.

Saturday morning Jason and I woke up bright and early and took a LONG, scenic drive up into the mountains to go watch his little sister's track meet. After an afternoon in the sun with way too many puberty bound 13 year olds running around, we said our goodbyes and headed to the local Coney Island stand on the way out of town. Picture above for proof. Amazing how you never grow too old or too wise for a hot dog. All the horror stories in the world about what hot dogs are made of couldn't stop me from eating one on a sunny day. Sometimes two.

Next stop was the bike store. The big moment. Time to buy the bike. Not sure why I was so nervous but it's never comforting to drop that much $$ on something new that you're not positive you'll love. But we took a gamble and it worked out well. I love it. Just love it. We went straight back to Jason's place after the store and geared up for an afternoon ride. We rode up the Boulder Creek path for a few miles and surprisingly I didn't collapse, give up, or crash. So far so good. Then we headed back down into town and agreed that the next best activity included sitting down with a cocktail. So we rode to the closest patio bar and did just that. I'll do my best at giving you a run down of what the scene looked like but I have a feeling it won't be nearly as entertaining to you as it was to us. The restaurant we went to was called K's China. So it's a Chinese restaurant with a rooftop bar located in the heart of the college campus. It was graduation weekend here in Boulder so all the Mom's and Dad's were in town ready to celebrate. As Jason and I sat in the sun on the rooftop with a pitcher of beer in hand, we took in the scene which included a dad bobbing his head to a "50 Cent" song blaring from the speakers, a college girl in short shorts grinding on some dude right in front of the dad, an 11 year old kid setting up the cups for a game of beer pong, and a mom leaning over a pitcher of booze sucking it down with a jumbo straw. And this picture I just painted for you was my version of a Van Gogh. Too crazy to understand.

Sunday (Mother's Day) was tame to say the least and consisted of even more of my favorite things. Movies, food, and a couch. My friend Katy came over with a plate of cookies and her and I indulged in an afternoon of horrible chick flicks and little to zero movement. Perfection. After we fried our brains with TV and grew bored of eating, she headed home and Jason came over to drag me off my ass and on to my bike. We rode into town and went to the market to buy fixings for dinner. To our surprise, we baked a veggie pizza that tasted delicious and proved to be easy on the wallet. Then I moved myself back onto the couch and geared up for another movie. All in all it was another successful day. It would have been nice to have been back in Michigan to hang with my mom for the day but ya can't get everything you want :)
